Not to particularly defend Poilievre but my guess it's a little like what's happened in MAID: in principle it seems like a good idea in special cases. It's a way of saying 'I trust that this will be practiced with integrity'--not bargaining for psychopaths and lemmings to grab hold of an idea and run. As for the latest, Gladu, seems to me her only principle is self-interest and the ease with which she has spun a 180 in her rhetoric is the stuff of nightmares. Don't know, yet, what's in her past, but the previous female floor crosser has a son who is (probably now, was) charged with serious sex offences. Call me cynical--wonder what happened to those charges. Anyone heard?
seems like the only thing that can be done is never re-elect these traitors and make sure their sinecures are cut off. no taxpayer pension for you, bucko.
>. . .fits about as well with the Liberal mindset as a miniskirt would on Donald Trump."
You could have just as easily said, "as well as a miniskirt would fit on *her*". (Meeeoww!)
Gotta say though. It doesn't say much for the Conservative Party that they attract candidates like this who actually win elections for them. I'm glad my own (Conservative) MP is better than she is. Perhaps any floor-crosser almost by definition looks this dumb, possessed only of a kind of low animal cunning*, not actual intelligence and no integrity. It's just that all the floor-crossers save one have been coming from one party and it doesn't look good.
But I suppose it doesn't matter much. Mark Carney is going to get his Majority with the by-elections coming up in Toronto (where else?!) and that should eliminate the bargaining power of any more Conservative MPs who want to desert their leader for the next four years (or five!)
*Credit to Fred Forsyth for this turn of phrase, from his novel, *The Dogs of War*, describing a West African dictator. Read it in 1974 or so and it stayed with me.
What a spectator sport this has become. These floor crossers either have some dirt on them that is being used, being offered some handsome role/$, and/or have no moral framework. How low is too low for the Liberal party? Apparently, they have no limits as if we didn't already know that. Integrity and ethics aren't something they are familiar with. Ms. Gladu, I can't express how I feel about your lack of moral character here but if you read my mind, you will have an idea. :(

*low animal cunning. Indeed.
